Sour Slashers

I whipped up these terrifyingly tasty gummies shaped like your favorite Horror Movie villains using the Masked Serial Killer molds from Shaped Ice Molds. I don’t know about you but sometimes I want sweets with a little stab of sour so I mixed in a healthy dose of citric acid to add a little fright into the bite with three killer flavors!  Cha Cha Cha Cherry… Ah Ah Ah – A fruity nod to Jason Voorhees and his infamous soundtrack whisper. Raspberry Ripper –Tart and masked in mystery, just like Michael Myers slashing the teenagers of Haddonfield. SCREAMing Strawberry – Juicy strawberry with a sour twist that’ll have you asking, “What’s your favorite scary flavor?”

These gummies are as fun to make as they are to eat. Add them to a Halloween candy board, tucked into party favor bags, or just as a late-night spooky snack while watching Horror Movies.

Servings: 45 gummies

Ingredients

  • 3 3 oz. boxes flavored gelatin strawberry, raspberry, cherry
  • 6 envelopes unflavored gelatin (2 envelope per flavor)
  • ¾ tsp. citric acid, food grade (¼ tsp per flavor)
  • 1 cup water (⅓ cup per flavor)
  • Candy weapons garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • (One 3-oz. box of prepared gelatin mixture makes about 15 serial killer mask gummies.)
  • Work in batches: Strawberry, Raspberry and then Cherry
In a small saucepan, add 1 3-oz. box strawberry gelatin, 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin, 1/4 tsp citric acid and 1/3 cup water. Whisk continuously over medium heat until the mixture is hot and all the gelatin is dissolved, about 2 minutes. Carefully pour strawberry gelatin into the Ghostface molds, working fairly quickly before the gelatin begins to firm up. Wash the saucepan and the whisk and repeat with remaining flavors.
  • Allow gelatin to set up at room temperature for about 30 minutes or refrigerate for 15 minutes and unmold the masked gummies. Enjoy!
Store in an air tight container at room temperature for about a week.
