The recipe is so easy and versatile that you can add any flavors you want and the molds make it easy to prepare. Feel free to top it with fresh fruit, nuts, and your favorite milk or just eat it all by itself as a snack. 🔪

(Note: I made two batches of this cereal for this post and one of the batches I accidentally over-poured the maple extract which accounts for the darker color of some of the killer nuggets pictured.)

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • cup corn starch
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. maple extract (substitute with vanilla extract)
  • cup water

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 300℉. Spray Horror Movie Character Mold with cooking spray and set aside.
Place rolled oats in a mini prep food processor and process into a fine flour (about 1 minute) and add it to a large mixing bowl. Whisk in remaining dry ingredients. Add water and maple extract (or vanilla extract) and mix until a dough comes together. The dough will be on the dry side but it should hold its shape. If its too dry and crumbles and doesn't hold it's shape, add a drop or two of water and knead it in until the dough holds its shape.
Roll dough into ½-inch balls and press into molds. Place silicone mold on a cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes in a 300℉ oven. Use oven mits and remove the mold from the oven and invert the mold onto the cookie sheet to unmold the cereal killers. Place the killer nuggets face up and return them to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, turning them once. Check that they are dry, returning any that still need more dry time and allow to cool completely before serving.
  • It's best to serve this cereal the same day or keep in an air tight container for up to two days. Add granola, nuts and fruit and your favorite milk. Enjoy!
